ABSOLUTELY our FAVORITE tall ship sailing experience is with STAR CLIPPERS!! We sailed for seven glorious days around Western Bali, Indonesia experiencing a diverse blend of culture, art, history and food! Starting and ending in Benoa, we visited five ports of call including East Madura, Probolinggo, Lovina Beach, Senggigi Beach, and Gili Sudak before returning to Benoa.
There was a diving master on board the ship so of course we learned how to scuba dive in the ship’s pool area and then took our first dive 30 feet below in Senggigi Beach to see spectacular sea life – eels, tropical fish, brilliant coral, and even swam with sea turtles! We climbed up to the “crow’s nest” of the ship and had a magnificent bird’s eye view of the Indian Ocean and surrounding island area.
Our ship, The Star Clipper, could go where other larger cruise ships could never go which allowed us to get up close and personal with our ports of call! On our favorite excursion, we visited the active Mount Bromo Volcano in East Java!! We started off in a mini-bus, then transferred to jeeps to drive up to the mountain, and then go on horses to get to the base of Mount Bromo. We climbed to the very top (SEVERAL stairs) and could look right down into the volcano with its steaming rock hissing as we took video!
AMAZING!! The ship’s Captain and staff knew us by name after the first day, and we felt like family with the other guests. It is an intimate setting with less than 200 cabins so we could enjoy all the ship had to offer without the over-crowded big ship experience.
